What can real estate agents do to stand out?

Many years ago I attended a presentation by a very successful real estate agent. He mentioned that when he begun selling he very quickly realised that he will not be able to be the number one salesperson  in the office. He decided that instead of focussing on being number one, he will focus on being the number one marketing agent.

What are we doing to stand out? What are we known for? What are we doing to be unique, have our own niche and become memorable? Here are some ideas that can help you be different.

Customer service

Provide above beyond and unexpected customer service. I worked with a salesperson that has provided his buyers and sellers such an exceptional service that after a few years all his business was referral based. Be so good at it that people will recommend you without hesitations.

Area expert

Many salespeople claim to be ones but very few actually stick to one small and specific area and put all their efforts into it. They know everyone who lives in the area and all the facts about it. 

Community support person

Whether it is through schools, religious organisations or community organisation, go and give. Give your time and you can also give some money, if needed but most importantly give then your time. Ask for nothing in return, do your best for that community, be genuine about helping and being part of it and the community will give you back. 

Be a specialist

This means that you choose a very specific segment of the market and focus just on that. Examples can be an apartment specialist, plaster house specialist, mortgagee sales. Have a very unique market that you are an expert on and build your name through it.

There are many other ideas and thoughts that I came across over the years some of them are very gimmicky and other more serious. The point is that these salespeople are known and remembered for their specialty and people use their services because of that.

Find your niche, specialise and your business will grow because of this.
